Tried this out over the weekend, pretty solid. Nice TB-303 style freebie for anyone that's interested. Sounds better than some of the more expensive TB-303 emulations IMO. It even lets you load your own distortion models which is really nice:
one thing i noticed every time i play around with a 303 clone (not much anymore these days... i've found d16 phoscyon to be close to perfect for my needs!) is that the STEP SEQUENCER/PATTERN MAKER is extremely important. now, i'm not saying we should go back to programming a full loop like in the old days, but I believe coming up with a sequence on a piano roll with midi is extremely different to doing the same on a dedicated sequencer.
all this to say simply: the sequencer on those plugins is extremely important for me!
i have never understood the fanatics of the sound. in a final mix you will never be able to tell the difference IMHO (between the real deal and emulations). it's mostly how you use it, the notes (and more importantly, the space between the notes), and the sound itself with a mix of cutoff, resonance, accents and drive.
went a bit off topic there! will need to check this out sooner or later, but the lack of a sequencer discourages me from doing so
Yeah man I agree with the purists comment. Although I've been guilty of cork sniffing myself in the past lol. But obviously, when you do this long enough you realize it doesn't make a difference especially in a final mix.
I've used the d16 one in the past but never put the time in. Will have to check it out again and maybe bug you for a few pointers.
I did try this one out and I like the way it sounds, even loaded a couple of distortion models into it as well which was pretty cool, a bit of a novelty but nice to have. Overall it sounds good to my ears and simple enough.
Being a Linux head (open source and all that), for me, it's a winner alone, but also totally with you on the step sequencer. About the "flying faders" aspect of the sound i use a 6x stack of Max for Live lfo tool, and i map each to every 303 knob parameter. pretty convincing for me.

Ah never even thought of that! 🤔 Id normally send it using an automation track but an lfo tool would be so much more flexible. Bitwig has modulation options built into everything but I prefer a dedicated plugin like Midishaper for that. Might have to try that out 👍
