Where to Begin
If you’ve ended up here, there’s a good chance you’re already making music… or at least trying to. You start ideas but finishing and releasing them is where things stall.
I know what that feels like.
Everything here comes from my own experience over the years… starting tracks, abandoning them, coming back, repeating the same patterns and slowly figuring out what was actually getting in the way. It isn’t about learning more techniques or finding some elusive piece of gear that’s going to change everything. It’s understanding the process behind how you work.
The articles below are laid out in a way that build on each other, but you can take them in at your own pace.
Why Most Producers Never Finish Tracks
This is where it starts. If you’ve got a hard drive full of unfinished tracks it breaks down why that happens… too many ideas, perfectionism, fear of putting music out and what actually helped me work through it.
The Psychology of Being a Producer
This goes a bit deeper into what’s actually happening underneath all of that. Not just what we do, but how we think while we’re doing it and why that often makes things harder than they need to be.
A Short History of My Production Journey
This is more personal. I talk about my formative years, the path I took getting into music, the things that shaped how I hear and approach it, and how all of that feeds into the way I work now.
The Missing Key to Finishing Tracks
This is where the practical side of music production meets the part nobody talks about. The missing key to finishing tracks consistently… and making music that actually resonates.
After that, you can explore the rest however you like. There’s no one single path through this and a lot of it depends on where you’re at and what you need at the time.
The main thing that tends to matter isn’t doing more, it’s understanding how you work well enough to establish momentum and consistency.
If you’d like to work through any of this more directly, coaching is an option. –
